Leigh Sports Village is one of the biggest investments in public sports, recreational and educational facilities for Wigan Borough in many years. The £83million project includes 10,000 seat stadium, new Leigh Sixth Form College, 400m running track with a covered sprinting facility and club house, a pavilion for a local amateur rugby league, flood lit grass, artificial pitches and multi-use games areas.

Component Developments worked with Rokbuild to develop the shower and changing areas drainage solution. The solution included a combination of drainage channels, stand-alone gullies and access covers to ensure that there was sufficient drainage to effectively manage the water-run off from bodies and showers.

The drainage channels supplied used Component Developments' 6010 channel profile with a built-in fall to a 5150 gully complete with removable waste basket, odour trap, filter plate and 110 diameter outlet spigot. The removable waste basket allowed hair and other debris to be caught in the basket, and removable preventing blockages in the gullies, and/or system failure.

All gullies and channels were topped with Component Development’s stainless steel Heelsafe grating, suitable for pedestrian traffic and comfortable on bare feet.

The final solution was a sustainable, effective drainage system capable of meeting all hydraulic, hygienic and specification requirements whilst being bare foot and pedestrian friendly.
