Exterior Building Drainage
BP Plc (formerly British Petroleum) is one of the world’s leading integrated oil and gas companies. It is the world’s eighth largest oil and gas company by revenue. In Sunbury, BP have their International Centre for Business and Technology (ICBT) building, which is ‘home’ to around 3,500 people, has 55 different international teams, and on any given day up to 30 languages can be heard. Component Developments was approached to design, manufacture and supply the external stainless steel drainage systems.
The drainage channel needed to fit in perfectly with their new modern aesthetic, effectively manage water run-off whilst being as easy as possible to install on site due to the large size of the irregular shaped system.
The system designed used Component Developments 6010 channel profile and was a curved 155mm wide stainless steel drainage channel, complete with a 124mm wide Heelsafe grating. Due to the channel being positioned outside, the decision was made to have the gratings locked down to decrease the threat of theft. The Heelsafe grating had a 47 x 5mm mesh which meant it is suitable for stiletto heels which are a favourite of business employees working at ICBT.
The system was supplied with levelling feet in 3,000mm lengths. The lengths were fitted with sleeve joints and a mechanical fixing. This made installation as quick and easy as possible. Despite the extra complications of manufacturing a curved drainage channel, the drawings, production process and despatch of this system took less than three weeks.
