Interior Building Drainage
The Mandarin Oriental is a group of hotels and resorts which offer 5-star accommodation, fine dining and spa experiences.
Component Developments designed, manufactured and supplied stainless steel floor drainage solutions numerous times to the Mandarin Oriental, London. The two main areas within the hotel that Component Developments supplied drainage for were the kitchens, and the shower/changing areas. Component Developments designed and manufactured different solutions for the two different applications.
For the shower and changing areas, Component Developments used their 6010 channel profile. This was specifically designed for leisure applications, and therefore has narrower shoulders, and is made of a slightly thinner material. The system also included a built in fall to a type 5150 gully (1.8 L/s). This system included a removable waste basket, odour trap, rodding port and 110mm diameter outlet spigot.
When designing this system there was great importance put on the removable waste basket, which would allow for any debris such as human hair to fall into the drainage channel, and be collected by the basket. This then allows for periodic removal and emptying which will prevent a build-up which could lead to system failure. These channels were topped with Component Developments Ø8mm perforated gratings which are suitable for barefoot traffic.
For the kitchen areas, Component Developments used their 3010 channel profile. This was specifically designed for kitchens and therefore has slightly wider shoulders, and is made from 2mm thick material. This means the channel is more robust, and can withstand the increased traffic commonly found within a commercial kitchen. The system also included a built in fall to a type 5200 gully (3 L/s) complete with a removable waste basket, odour trap, rodding port and 110mm diameter outlet spigot.
For this application the emphasis was on designing a system that was as hygienic and easy-to-clean as possible, for example incorporating circular spun gullies into the design; which allow waste to travel through the system easier and gives it a “self-cleaning design”. These systems were topped with Component Developments anti-slip grating which prevents employee slippage and allows debris to fall into the system and be caught by the waste basket.
The final solutions supplied to the Mandarin Oriental were hygienic, durable stainless steel floor drainage solutions which met the high standard of quality kept at The Mandarin Oriental.
